Why oh why is tintinnabulation fraught with danger?

And the day came when the risk it took to remain tight inside the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. -- Anais Nin.

Risks. Risks and Love. Is it risky to love one another?

Also, I ask, in reference to comments on the last post, if it is too risky to bring children into this world we live in? Yes of course it is risky, but do the rewards outweigh the potential pitfalls? I tried in vain to find the following quote. I will do my best to paraphrase. Someone, and I cannot remember who, was gardening, and was asked what they would do if they knew today that they would die tomorrow. The reply was they would continue gardening. The fact is, we do not know when we are going to die, we don't even know for sure, what tomorrow will bring or if it will come. If you asked those who were caught in the tsunami last year, the day before it hit, what they were planning to do the next day, I feel you would find that the answers would not match the horror in which they were about to receive. Since we do not really know anything about the future does that mean the risks are too great? Like the person quoted above, we may as well live as if all will be fine in the years ahead. I submit vigorously, that there is just as much evidence supporting the continued survival of the earth and its inhabitants, as there is fact against this notion.

Allegory by Chankslee: the ukranian zimbabwian falls into the abyss of love! Just an update. The beautiful Yulia has been supplanted. If it stirs even a remote interest---> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yulia_Tymoshenko Aren't politics volatile? I didn't know at the time that she, as is mentioned in wikipedia, allegedly had an assassination attempt against her. I also wonder if the scarred face of Yushchenko, due to poisoning has cleared up.

Secret Wall tatoos. Next time you are in a hotel, check behind the pictures. This crafty site shows what can be done to unsuspecting hotel rooms, by Canadian rebellious artists. Is it art or vandalism? Is it neat or nefarious? What would the Professor think?

The reason why someone who showed up for school naked, wouldn't go swimming is.....skinny dippin' or chunky dunkin' isn't allowed in public. teehee And besides, they must have 'heard' the bells.

As for having kids....I still don't know why people choose have them other than for ther own selfish needs. I had my children to satisfy my needs. Once they were born I found I spent most of my time satisfying their needs. Selfish little stinkers they were...but they have grown into incredible adults, who on the most part have put us old foggies on the back burner. Where oh where did I go wrong? Should have gardened. As for the 'gas princess' I guess she just wasn't producing.hahahaha

As for secret wall art....I don't get it. I would be some choked if someone drew on my walls.

HEY I resemble that remark AV AKA MOM!

But yes we are great now aren't we.... maybe I should have taken up gardening, or cross stitching or crocheting???? oh well too late now. All I can hope to do is learn from my moms mistakes and raise children who don't put their parents on the back burner

ssshhhhhh it's a secret.......we're not suppose to know about the wall... we're not suppose to find the secret messages found behind the art that reveals the art. But it figures they are Canadians, the liberal rebellious sort those Canadians are....teee heee heeee

Well my comments about children sparked some very good responses, so I think I'll put one more thought in.
I think it's very important that people that have had children treasure and love their children. It's perhaps the most important thing anybody can do to contribute to the world at large in a very good way.
However, if this world is to survive, then people that have had children must be encouraged not to have any more, and people that haven't had children must be encouraged to see the happiness in their lives as they are. In all of history, all people have assumed that they would have children. This is a very strong habit to break since it's been around for so long. People can have happy lives without children though, and they can still support their friends' families and enjoy their company.
I do not for a moment fail to see that my friends with children have a very beautiful thing in their lives that gives them much joy. But I'm sure on the other hand that my friends with children are sometimes jealous of the freedom I have in my life. It's quite a trade-off, but neither is better or worse. The more the message is passed around the world to people that they can have happy lives without ever having children, the more likely it becomes that the human race stops destroying this planet that's already buckling under the weight being put on its back. Endangered and extinct species are more commonplace now than thriving ones. The atmosphere is being burned up. Just to find food sources and shelter for the multitudes of humans on this planet, we destroy countless habitats and colonies of animals. We are truly a tumorous growth on the face of the earth. And yet if we let this fact take away our self-respect and our love for each other, then all is irretrievably lost.
We must be able to honestly face the terrible destructive force we've become, and yet at the same time forgive ourselves and each other. It is the trial of our times. We cannot fail.

Oh and as far as secret art goes, I was just watching a train ride by on the tracks the other day and looking at all the graffiti on it. I was thinking to myself "Those railway companies are lucky to get all that artwork for free. They should be paying a lot to people that are making their drab old boxcars look so much nicer. Colourful and inventive. If the motivation behind painting is to do something that looks good, then there can be nothing wrong with it. Don't let it be discouraged or punished. That drawing on the picture on the blog entry on the wart on the frog on the log in the hole in the bottom of the sea is nothing short of ingenius. Any hotel staff that wouldn't be charmed by it is missing an important part of their heart, and I ain't talkin' 'bout the aorta.

Psam,
Could u please clarify your following quotes.

"Endangered and extinct species are more commonplace now than thriving ones."

"Just to find food sources and shelter for the multitudes of humans on this planet, we destroy countless habitats and colonies of animals."

I was just kinda curious. I think the above quotes from our own, Psam, could be disputed. Were you just playing devil's advocate and embellishing what you meant? Please explain.

thanks,

chanks

Chanks,
I think now you're playing devil's advocate by acting like you're unaware of the extent of destruction of our world.
Have you ever flown in a plane over BC and looked at how much forest has been destroyed? For that matter, just use your handy google earth and take a look for yourself. It's GONE.
Whales and fish in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans have been decimated. Buffalo in North America are a tiny fraction of the numbers they used to be. Birds' eggs quite frequently do not make it through their gestation period because of acid rain.
The open-endedness of your question is so vast that my mind can't keep up with the number of different examples coming into my head.
There are more species of elephants in Africa on the endangered list now then there are thriving ones. Polar bears could be gone in the next ten years due to receding ice flows. Your own Aussie compatriot, Steve Irwin, spoke passionately about all the humans that are ruthlessly and callously destroying animals and their habitats, everywhere in the world!
Does anyone fail to notice the seriousness of the greenhouse effect? That alone will finish us off. FINISH US OFF. SOON. Does nobody believe that? Wake up! Forget about endangered species for a second and imagine that they really don't matter. We're STILL soon to be on the endangered list ourselves if we don't solve this little problem, which can't be solved if the human population doesn't start decreasing instead of increasing. This isn't speculation. These are hard and fast facts folks. I'm sorry to wreck your day, and I appreciate your comments about negativity and all that. Check out the carbon dioxide levels measured in the atmosphere. Get the numbers, and then do a little math about the speed that's increasing at, and then have a look at the increase in average temperature on the Earth that's already taken place, and then see if you want to sit around believing we can just carry on doing what we're doing and still be okay.
Chanks, I really am not quite sure why you'd ask your question of me. Do you really think anybody could possibly dispute that human beings are destroying the world, and that time is running out? Is there anybody really so absolutely blissfully unaware?
Now back to the point. With respect to people who already have children: they deserve respect and support. Nothing will finish us off sooner that bickering, finger-pointing, and losing our love and nurturing abilities with each other. All I'm saying is that people worldwide need to be convinced to consider not having children. They need to be very positively and enthusiastically told that they have the right to have children if they really want, but that they should seriously consider the idea that they can have happy lives without doing so. We have no other choice. The population will stabilize or we will watch the world burn up like a campfire that's run out of wood, before our very eyes, in our lifetimes, yours and mine.
Try not to let this ruin your day. But seriously, please be realistic about it at the same time, I'm not saying this for the attention. I'm not trying to grandstand. I'm not lying. I'm not even embellishing the truth. Sadly, these are facts. I am really concerned, because I care about people, and I care about the world.

PSAM. It seems some countries are busier than others. How do you plan to educate them? I see them taking over. Do something psam.....do something quick.

wanna be,
I don't know whether or not you disagreed with the point I made that finger pointing and blaming each other will finish us off, but your response certainly amounts to finger pointing, and I don't think it does any good.

Anonymous said...

But you did get my point.

Anonymous said...

No wanna be, I didn't get your point. Let me see if I can try and figure out what point you were making. Are you trying to say that citizens of India are more to blame for the possible imminent demise of the world than those of Canada and Australia? And America is not as much to blame as India but still more than Canada? I hope that's not your point.
Or maybe you're trying to say that there's no hope for the world because the juggernaut of human civilization is unstoppable? Well I hope that's not the point you're making either.
And what's with the "Psam do something quick"? Are you trying to say that my efforts are futile and I should shut up? Are you trying to say that now that I've pointed this problem out to you, it's my responsibility to solve it? Wow, thanks a lot for heaping that on my shoulders.
People are smarter than you give them credit for. The human race is capable of survival if this message of peaceful, constructive population control through gentle encouragement is passed around. I resent being implicated by your pointing finger, because I don't know the solutions to this problem. All I know is that it's a problem, and it should be talked about. That's why I've spent so much time trying to express my thoughts about it.
I also resent your "other countries are taking over" comment. Just note that India is largely Hindu, whereas US and Canada, the next two populated nations on your list, are largely Christian, Judaic, and Islamic, all three of which have histories of violence and oppression that far outweigh that of Hinduism. So personally I have more faith in Indian citizens doing something constructive once the problem becomes apparent to them than North Americans. Not to mention that North Americans are among the leaders in the world for destruction and pollution per capita.

Hey Psam, in alot of ways I agree with you but I don't think this has anything to do with religion.

I wonder if has something to do with education though. And I do believe certain countries need to be educated about birth control. India not only has the highest population, it seems they are running out of room.

juggernaut = over powering force.
Why can't they be stopped?

I find it scary, as the moral values of India are so different from those of Cananda. What is exceptable and of the norm in India is wrong or frowned upon here in Canada.
It is so sad about that young pregnant women who went missing and was found later burned beyond recognition. I know we are getting way off track but.... Here is a link, if it works.

I just read that global warming has nothing to do with people having kids or driving SUV's.

It is all the result of sunspot activity.

We just can't do nothing about it.

Humans just don't even figure into the equation.

All that hooey is just a bunch of hand wringing propogandists trying to stir everyone up.

How am I doing so far?

Thank you for pointing out some flaws in my thinking. Nice to read a response that made me feel respected. Nice to read a response that made me think I was being taken seriously. Pretty easy to get overwhelmed with grief and helplessness by a topic like this without some help from someone like you.
I read your link. It is awful to read but I felt it gave me some well-used perspective.
I wish you a happy halloween and other good things.

Actually in a manner of speaking I think, it might have been Richard C. Hoogland that made the comment that a lot of the planets all seem to be heating up for no apparent reason.

Richard C. Hoogland is a disgruntled NASA scientist that believes that the face on Mars is a structure built by someone and not a mountain that comes natural.

He has a website called "Enterprise Mission",which states "to boldly go where man has been before."

I kind of like to call him Richard C. Hoogwash, but then I am a bit of a cynic, as you well know.

Now today Billy Blair of England has jumped on the Greenhouse Bandwagon. I wonder how he will line his pockets because of it.

Ooopps there I go again.
