Today was Anzac Day. We had a day off from work and there was a dawn service, and a parade. It was to remember the fallen and those who died in WWI in Anzac Cove. There is remembrance day also but I think this day is by far the most revered.
I did a post about this day last year and what it means to Australians so I will not, this year do anything but draw your attention to it.
Another thing I will draw your attention to is to the stoush between Psam and Bench. Our own, and special AV sparked the furore by saying "if the government hadn't stepped in, insisting on taking God out of the schools." What happened next was Psam publishing a lengthy reply and letter to AV. Bench responded by claiming, " [t]his country is afraid of offending someone. This country no longer has a backbone, well....it no longer has a god." Psam has again responded in the last BS and has asked some very interesting questions. Although I feel he rambles on he does so with passion. It makes for very uh, interesting reading.
Me? Where is me? I am looking forward to tomorrow, at 12 noon where I plan to be listening to a very important program. The result will tell me what the rest of my day will be like.

No citizens of any nation that participated in World War One should ever forgive their governments for the deaths and destruction that their nation went through. Every single government that participated in that war did it for power and glory. There was no good side or bad side. Every single government in the world duped their citizens into thinking that they should risk their lives "for their country". And too many people died as a result.
Days that remember World War One are days in which we can remember that governments often do more harm than good.
I understand Psam wants everyone to quit having children so they don't over populate this world. It would seem to me that 'war' would be a good way to decrease the population.
I respect ANZAC day and memorial day, mainly because people died doing what they thought would be good for the following generations.
We are the following generation and we KNOW NOTHING about dying or even denying ourselves.
I heard a lady moaning about not being able to retire because she was concerned about the welfare of her 18 year old child.
I told her, when my dad was 19 he was in another continent fighting a world war. Her 18 year old sure doesn't need to be pampered.
Not that I am any great example. I realize I had it soft all my life, but I really do appreciate those who give their lives for the good of others, and I realize I had it good too. A moment of respect is in order even if the cause is questionable.
Why can't we all live in peace?

Psam, I hope you aren't serious.
If you are, I think you need to stop and think about things.
If Canada was attacked by China tomorrow, and put all canadian citizens under china martial law, how happy are you going to be about that? Psam no longer has the right to do anything other than work for the government of China. He is not paid. Psam is given a ration of food for his labours. A very bleak picture. Now do think the Nations around us are going to sit by and let this happen? Do you want Briton and the U.S. to just sit there and laugh at us as we go off to work for China? There will be a war. People will die for the rights of you and me. Why do you think this is governments dupeing people.
When North Korea invaded the south Canada didn't declare war on them but many canadians went and joined the U.S. in that fight because they felt an injustice had been done. Do you not believe we should have any rights? You speak as though the government is a thing. Governments are people, some good some bad.
Because there are bad ones there will be war. If people follow a bad leader then there needs to be some who are willing to stand up against them. If Germany hadn't tried takeing over Europe in ww1 and ww2 there wouldn't have been a war. BUT they did and people died. What gets me is people died for your rights Psam, and it feels like you are spitting in their face. In The World wars most of those people were volunteers.
We are free today because of those who thought it was worth their lives.
Bench
If governments are really worth their weight in salt, they'll be able to prevent wars from happening.
If world affairs degenerate to the point where a war happens, it is because the governments have failed at their job. They should be seen as having miserably failed in this case. They should not be paid tribute whether or not they win the war. They have failed.
The obscene point about this that most people who support wars fail to notice is that there are many people in positions of powers in government who secretly WANT the war to happen, because they realize how much this will increase the power of the government of which they are a part. In World War One, this was the case in all governments. They WANTED that war. They WANTED that power. They did NOTHING to prevent the war in the years before it, even though they were capable. Why?!? Because they love the glamour and pride that comes with winning a war over their adversaries. They love how they can use national pride as a means to be glorified by their citizens.
