I know you have probably been oversaturated with the whole story, but I feel compelled to revisit it again. The worst shooting in the history of the USA. Over thirty killed by a man from China who initially was embroiled in a domestic dispute goes ballistic. This tragic act raises many questions. My first impression though, was one of, and I am being honest here, " oh great, another shooting in the US. " It is tragic in itself that I have become so desensitised but sadly, it happens too regularly. I don't know why. Why do these things happen, one would ask rhetorically. You will notice the date on the picture, of 1999. It seems like such a long time ago. Minutes before lunchtime. April 20th. Columbine. I can bet the parents and loved ones of the children who passed away find it feels like yesterday. And yesterday the tragedy happened again. Why?

Chanks, I'm sure you never thought, "oh just another shooting". But I get the point. From Columbine to Taber to Virginia. My heart hasn't hardened but it is as if I am developing an immunity. Once again we are back to the age old argument, if the government hadn't stepped in, insisting on taking God out of the schools... creating an example that would take him out of the homes....etc. That is wht I think.
AV
Good to see you again AV, it's been too long.
I think there's another reason for this problem. Experiments on rats have shown that once they pass a certain population density, they begin to kill each other. Humans are very much like rats in this respect, as well as many others. Religion has a tendency to exacerbate people's quarrels with each other, so consequently I think that the carnage would be even worse if religion were included as a part of the subject matter taught in schools. All the different religions insist that they're the one that's right, which is a pretty silly contradiction because the only possible way for a religion to be right is if it accepts the wisdom of all other religions as well. And the religions of course that insist that there's only one god rather than many are historically the most violent ones, so putting God in schools seems to me to be a bad idea.
The only thing that will stop the population density from increasing the stress of shared resources on the human population is if people learn to voluntarily stop reproducing so much. Children should be taught to plan to accept the possibility of never having children themselves. Trust me, it's more fun.
Hey Psam...I think you're input is great but I never said anything about 'religion'! In fact, you are right, that would be the worst thing you could put in the schools. LOL But God anywhere, could never be a bad idea.
Psam, if your parents had been taught not to procreate there wouldn't be you. And I think the world is a better place because of you. So put that in your pipe and smoke it. LOL

Good to see you AV. I don't know if i agree with sam (rat experiment) because you don't hear of mass killings like this in china or india, (to the same scale as america)which are by far the most populous of all nations. As far as your one god theory, you may be able to respect the wisdom of other answers and respect the people who are submitting the answers but the sole answer of 2+1 is 3. Lastly, if you are following someone to a destination but then stop and look around and start following others, you will not get to the place where that one person is going to. It may be more about following 1 ideal instead of fully closing your mind to other ideas.
good point conscience, i am so used to standing off against psam i have this to say to av. was god ever in universities? i believe that the focus in higher learning wasn't on god, but on skool. i dont' agree with your view or think it is the answer, but, yeah ,i think there are lots of people who would agree with you.
Hey some freak, could you imagine this world if we all shared the same beliefs etc. Try and imagine everyone wearing the same color cos that was the favorite color, or the favorite car or the favorite food.
Now did that make sense? It did to me.
And as far as your question "was God ever in universities?" maybe if he had been this wouldn't even have been a topic.
OH YA.........some freak, some guy,
somewhere, some hope!!
You may be right
I may be crazy
But it just may be a lunatic you're looking for
Its too late to fight
Its too late to change me
You may be wrong for all I know
But you may be right

Well said AV
What about guns? Do you think this will renew the gun debate? Virginia has very lax gun laws. However, having said that, do you ban cars, because they cause more deaths than guns?
Good plan...ban guns, cars and while your at it, drugs, cigarettes, alcohol, any food that might cause a health problem that could lead to death. And being we are quoting songs, maybe we "need some thought control".
I think guns were invented some time in the 17th century. I'm just not sure when we lost respect for man kind.
Besides, laws are made to be broken. All it gets you is a slap on the wrists.
Very insightful "someone on av's computer" I cant get no satisfaction and i try and i try...but.. you can't buy me love..
seriously though and this disputes our venerable psam's thoughts on rats who are overpopulated, the worst gun carnage actually occured in Australia with 35 deaths at a McDonalds. The poplulation of Aus is very small.
I guess the States will have to do better next time. They only got 33.
Hey,,,, when did this happen? I thought it was all over.
I thought Diplomacy took over and this one was shut down....
Nice to hear the banter...
Again.
Canucks won tonight.....
Hope they can keep it going.
